About the role 
We are seeking an experienced Cook to join the team at Savory Hospitality at one of our onsite business dining spaces. Our ideal candidate will anticipate and address the needs of the company and our client partner with a focus on quality control, presentation and plating, and delivering high-end final products while maintaining a high standard of hygiene and safety in accordance with the Department of Health and Savory standards.  

Our business dining experiences are one of our unique services that offer team members the experience of working alongside the Savory team as well as directly interfacing with our onsite client on a day-to-day basis. 

 
This role is a key addition to our growing team. Here are some examples of the primary responsibilities of our Cook: 
  • Lead a station, coordinating with other cooks and the onsite Executive Chef to follow recipes to exact specifications while maintaining a high standard of excellence at every step of the process 
  •  Serve as an ambassador of the Savory brand 
  • Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh and of the high-quality standards expected of Savory 
  • Exemplify and train staff as needed on best practices of food safety and storage in accordance with NY Department of Health requirements, with particular regard to the safe cooking, cooling, and storing of large-scale and batch-production food 
  • Maintain clean, sanitized, and safe work areas, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes as well as executing opening and closing procedures 
  • Monitor station inventory levels and contribute to monthly inventory counting 
  • Collaborate with onsite Executive Chef and Director of Culinary on recipe research and development 
  • Other duties as assigned to support the culinary team 

What we’re looking for

Your experience should show us the following: 
  • At least 3 years of experience cooking in a restaurant or high-scale events catering kitchen 
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, lead a station or project, and collaborate between teams on complex and large-scale projects 
  • Expert manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and knife skills, including techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, julienne, chiffonade, and dicing 
  • Advanced culinary ability demonstrating techniques including, but not limited to: sous vide cooking methods, braising, slow roasting, emulsification, and stellar presentation abilities 
  • Excellent time management and organization  
  • Open communicator across levels and departments 
  • A calm, positive, and productive demeanor while operating in a high-volume kitchen 
  • A growth-oriented mindset with a focus on upward movement 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Teams 
  • Experience using Flex catering software is a plus! 

Job requirements 
  • Capability to maintain a stationary position, often standing for prolonged periods in varying temperature conditions 
  • Basic understanding of spoken and written English 
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, ability to repeatedly lift up to 25lbs 
  • DOH Food Handler’s certificate preferred 
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule daytime Monday – Friday and occasionally including nights, weekends, or holidays
